I went on the "famous" Richard Crowe Chicago Ghost Tour this weekend and thought I would post some recent information on Resurrection Mary. According to Crowe, the last sighting of Mary was two weeks ago when a middle-aged woman gave Mary a ride that ended in the familiar pattern of Mary being dropped-off at the cemetery gate and vanishing into thin air while the woman watched her walk into the cemetery. The woman, pale and shaken, went to the bar (that has had so many people come in after experiences with Mary) across the street from the cemetery and phone the police. Also, about a month ago, the bar owner said that several people in the bar caught a glimpse of a blonde woman in a white dress pass the open door of the bar. When they ran outside, they again caught a glimpse of the hair and dress trailing the woman as she turned the corner of the building. When they ran to the corner, nobody was there.
Also, found out that lights inside the usually dark mausoleum located in the cemetery have frequently been seen going off and on, thru the stained glass windows. The mausoleum alarm system has given false alarms so many times, the police sometimes ignore it. Apparently there was a flurry of this activity between June and August, 1996 (I believe Crowe said 18 times).
The tour arrived at Resurrection Cemetery about 11:30 P.M. and went into the bar to hear from the bartender and regulars. Some claimed to have personally seen Mary at least once. They say she appears more on foggy and/or rainy nights or on nights during a full moon. When we exited the bar after midnight, there was a curious fog rolling over the street from the cemetery but, unfortunately, Mary wasn't to be seen. By the way, the tradition is for the bartender to keep a Bloody Mary at the end of the bar for Resurrection Mary.
Chicago has many ghosts and strange tales, as might be expected from it's tragic and violent past.
