The Hotel

The idea for the Hotel Del Coronado was conceived in 1884 by Elisha Babcock and H.L. Story. Groundbreaking occurred in 1887, and the Hotel opened on February 19, 1888. The Hotel has hosted numerous presidents and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. It has always been a popular destination for celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, who filmed Some Like it Hot there in 1958.
