Voting Center -- Vote Results!

Here are the results of the vote for October/November. The topic was:
Which background do you prefer -- old or new?

Here is how people answered. There were 130 votes total.
For the first question, Which background, overall, do you like better?:

  • 76 people liked the new background on the front page better
  • 54 people liked the old background better
The second question was Do you think the text on the old background is hard or straining to read?
  • 66 people thought it was a little straining
  • 51 people thought the text was very hard to read
  • 13 people did not find the text hard to read
Question three asked which background was easier to read.
  • 104 voters thought the new front page is much easier to read
  • 15 thought both pages were easy to read, 6 thought both are hard to read, and 5 thought the old background was easier.

Based on these results, I am officially retiring the old background from use on the front page. It may pop up on other pages from time to time though.

Here are some of the comments (nice and not-so-nice) and suggestions I received.

I like the colorful blue, but the white text is hard to read over the gray tombstones. How about just having black text? Also -- if there any way you can show which stories are new without having to click on every letter of the alphabet? I can't tell where the new stories are without going through every single letter.
A lot of people suggested using black text instead of white on the old background. I tried that and believe me, it doesn't make things any better. In fact, it is even harder to read than the white text! As for the new stories, I might start adding a list to the What's New page if I have the time.
So far, nice page! Will continue to look! Thanks for your efforts! Happy Halloween!
Overall, all of your pages rule!
This page is hard to read. It hurts my eyes a little.
I like the old background, but it is harder to read. Perhaps black text would show up better against the blue than the white/grey.
Other than the color or the type on the page, (which makes it kind of difficult to read when it goes over the tomb stones) I think it looks cool!
it is hard to read blue things with white writing on it i like the pictures on this page
I think that you should use the colored tombstones, but lighten them if your computer is capable of doing that.
I did try dimming the colors a little and applying other special effects to the picture, but it didn't seem to help much. My graphics software is pretty primitive, in case you can't tell. ;)
Hi,my name is Christopher Bohar.I really like your website.I have a suggestion. I think for the background you should make the tones of the colors a little lighter and the letters a little brighter to make it easier to read the words. Basically though I like your website and like to visit it frequently.
mabe if you put the letters in black they would be easyer to read? just a thought. HAPPY HALLOWEEN
    No offence, but better graphics!
Don't get me wrong, I love the color graphic...it just doesn't suit a page full of text! ;)
Just don't use bright blue. That kills my eyes!!!!!!
    It hurts my eyes!
my god man! why would you even subject people to a background with colors of such different levels, and then put white text on top of it??
If you Had the text in a different color you could keep the colorful background but it still might be hard to read experment with Black, Green, or Red
THIS IS A VERY COOL PAGE!!! IT COULD NOT BE ANY BETTER!!!!
User1:I want good ghost stories. And not so long. I don't have time to read all that boring crap. User2: I find this boring.
very cool this rules keep up the good work!
maybe add more black colors and make brown, dead grass
    You have a great site!
Maybe put a tomb on the side.....????
needs less clutter in the background...background detracts from the test, and vice-versa.
