Policy on reading, downloading, and using the ghost stories on this site
If you want to use these stories in a published document, PLEASE contact the original author of the story. I CANNOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO USE THESE STORIES. The original authors hold all copyright over their individual stories. Authors are listed in the headers (address field) of each story.
Published documents include:
- Web pages, including business, professional, non-profit, AND personal pages. If anyone besides you can access your site, you must obtain permission from the original author before you can place a story on your site, even if you are not making money from the site. I have seen some of these stories on other pages with all header/contact information stripped, and with no indication where the stories came from (You know who you are!).
- Print publications such as newspapers, magazines, brochures, and newsletters, including non-profit publications.
- All web-based publications including those listed in (1.)
- All other non-personal, distributed electronic and print media not listed above.
Permission is granted for educators to print out the stories for small-scale classroom use.
As with all web media, individuals may copy the stories for their own personal, private, non-profit, non-distributed use. This means you can download the stories to your hard drive to read at your leisure or forward them to a friend, but you can't put them in your organization's newsletter. You do not need to ask permission to download things for your personal private use.
Other Notes
I have done my best to obtain permission from the authors to put these stories here. HOWEVER, some of the very early stories did not have complete contact information on them when I received them. Sometimes email gets lost in cyberspace or never gets read. If you see your story here and you would like it removed, or the contact information changed, please email me.
The content of a few of the older stories has been edited in a few cases very slightly to enhance comprehension. [A few examples: rampant misspelling, lack of punctuation to the point where a sentence was nearly unreadable, obvious typos and missing words.] Other than these very minor changes, the stories remain in their original form. Therefore, please be advised that these stories may contain words [i.e. "swear words"] or concepts which may offend you. The vast majority of the stories are not in the least offensive, but consider yourself warned anyhow.
Most of these stories are not intended as fiction. The authors wrote them with the intent of describing a true experience that really happened to them. That being said, there are a few stories here which I am almost certain are fictional, but I've included them here anyway because they are highly entertaining.
Thanks for visiting. I have done a great deal of work over the past ten years collecting these stories, obtaining permission, and converting them into html format. I hope you enjoy them!
