Hi Everyone!

Well, I've been here for a while and feel a bit more comfortable about discussing an experience I've had that was and is still very special to me.

Six years before I was born, my grandmother Irene died from lupus. She was very distraught towards the end because she knew that she would never be able to hold a grandchild. She held out as long as she could and was at least able to see a picture of my newborn sister. She couldn't hold her because my father was in the military and living in Germany at the time. My father was very close to his mother and was very distraught after her death. It was very painful for him to even see a picture of her, so he took the pictures down and packed them away.

Six years later I am born. As I grew older I had a reoccurring dream of a middle age woman holding me and rocking in a rocking chair. I always knew her as Grandma Rene. When I was about six we moved to Washington and while my mom was unpacking she took out a picture of my fathers mother. I told her that was grandma Rene and I explained to her that she comes in my dreams and holds me. My mother was just shocked. She could not figure out how I could have come up with that name, as she couldn't recall ever saying it. To this day, whenever I am having a very hard time and feeling really down, she comes to me in my dreams and the next day I feel much better. I gave my daughter the name Irene and I feel that somewhere my grandmother is smiling down at us. It feels good to think that my grandma was able to hold her grandchild after all, and her picture has a permanent place right above my bed.

I have had other dreams of friends who passed away when I was a teenager and my mother has dreams frequently of relatives that have wanted her to pass on messages to loved ones. I'll tell those stories at another time if you all are interested.

Shelly
