After months of lurking, I've decided to post a few experiences of my own. This one is pretty benign, but I have a few more interesting tales to send when I get the time.
I worked in the kitchen of a hospital in SE Pennsylvania for about five and a half years. The area where I worked was built in 1924, and had been patient rooms at one time (Psych ward, supposedly). While I was there, several inexplicable things happened. For one, the elevator outside of the kitchen had a serious habit of opening when I walked up to it, before pressing the button. This only happened at this one particular elevator, and still happened after a complete mechanical overhaul, ruling out mechanical malfunction. It became so frequent that I was in the habit of saying "Thanks!" when it happened. One particular incident gave me a real shock.
I was leaving the department with my check in hand, looking down at it. I heard the elevator open as I walked out the door, and glanced up from my pay stub to see a man in a brown suit step into it. I yelled "Hold that elevator" as I quickened my step. I turned into the elevator, still looking down, and hit the button for the first floor. I noticed that no other buttons were pressed, and asked, "What floor?" and turned to look at my companion. Needless to say, there was no one there. The doors had just closed, otherwise I would have been out of there. It was only about three steps from the time I saw the ghost to the time I stepped into the elevator, so there wasn't a chance that someone could have gotten out before I got in. I made a point to thank this person (or whatever) for scaring the living daylights out of me, but there was never any violence, just a polite soul who called the elevator for people now and then.
Also, right around the corner from that elevator was an electric door activated only by a panel on the wall (no electric eye or anything). One day this door opened for me as I walked up to it. Puzzled, I thought it might be a short circuit. However, it kept happening all that day. I watched it to see if it was just random, but it wasn't opening when nobody was there. I got two different people to try it, and it worked for both of them, too. The thing is, it had never happened before and never happened again.
Sorry for the length, more to come...
