In 1993, my husband lived in a small two bedroom house on the east side of Wonder Lake before we were married. During that time he had been keeping company with a girl named "Cindy". They had just ended their relationship and she had returned all the little mementos that lovers swap in a large manila clasp envelope. My husband had laid the envelope horizontally on the top of the encyclopaedia's on the book case in the bedroom. The next morning he awoke to find the envelope standing upright on the shelf with the bottom bellowed out. The bottom of the envelope was filled with water. The water had not leaked out onto the book case nor had it wet any books. The only wet items were what was in the envelope. There were no water pipes in the bedroom and no conceivable way for the water to have gotten there.
Shortly after this incident, my husband travelled to Tennessee where I was living and attending college. We got married there but I had to wait until the semester ended to move back to Illinois. Six weeks after we married, I came to Illinois to help search for a new house for us as the other was too small. My husband was working the afternoon shift during that time. One evening I was in the basement doing laundry when I heard footsteps overhead travelling from our bedroom, through the living room, to the kitchen. I assumed that my husband had come home for something and it was him trying to locate me. I yelled up the stairs but got no answer. I assumed that he had to go back to work and didn't think anything of it. The next evening, I was taking a bath when I heard footsteps again from our bedroom, through the living room, and onto the tile floor in the kitchen. I got out of the tub and peeked through the door. I did not see anyone nor did I get an answer from m! ! y husband when I called out to him. In the bathroom, my husband kept a glass ashtray on the sink counter that was cleaned and washed every day. One night he and I were sitting in the living room when we heard something break. My husband went into the bathroom to find that the ashtry had broken in two....a clean break right through the center of the clean ashtry. There was nothing around the ashtray that could have fallen to break it. After a week I went back to Tennessee.
Six weeks later, I moved back to Illinois and into the little house as we didn't close on the new house for five weeks. During this five weeks, every time I went into the bathroom, the toilet seat was up. Now, I just assumed that since my husband had been a bachelor for so long, that he would forget to lower the seat. I would put the seat back down and, every time I went into the bathroom again, the seat would be up. We had never discussed this between us as I didn't find that it was an overwhelming nuisance. One night, my husband had just come in from work and went to use the washroom. He came back out and we were sitting in the living room talking. A while later, he went back into the bathroom and came out with his face ashen. He asked me if I had been into the washroom since he had last been in there. I told him that I hadn't and he said that the toilet seat was up again. I told him that the seat was always up when I went in there and he said that he was very! ! careful always about putting the seat back down. He lowered the seat again, with me watching, and ten minutes later the seat was back up.
One night just before we moved, I was sleeping when my husband disturbed me when he came to bed. I was getting up to go to the washroom and my right leg was tangled in the bedcovers. I had placed my left leg on the floor and was sitting kind of on my knees when I saw a mist near the dresser on my left. At that time, I felt a hand in the middle of my chest that shoved me backwards onto the bed. I was terrified and couldn't move. Shortly afterwards, we moved into our new house. We didn't tell the single man who purchased that home about the strange goings on. And.....I haven't got the guts to go ask him if he ever had any strange happenings.
