All through my childhood I remained very close to my grandmother, eventually when I was 15 I moved into her house and lived with her for almost a year when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I was pretty immature and didn't fully realise that she just might die,I thought she'd live forever, but I remember her saying how she loved to iron and could iron all day. On December 20th 1991 my grandmother passed away in the early hours, and late that night I couldn't sleep,so at 11:30pm exactly I got up for a drink and standing right in the doorway between the sunroom and kitchen was my nanna, wearing her favourite housedress and the most peaceful expression I have ever seen on her face standing behind the ironing board methodically pushing the iron back and forth,I told my aunts and uncle what I saw but they didn't believe me and I gladly took a sleeping pill!
