story My husband and I Had just had our first child, a boy. He was a delightful, happy baby. I was in the habit of taking him to the grocery store my husband owned to visit him and see the employees.
There was a woman there named Mary Anne. She was a fastidious woman, a real neatnikand visibly unhappy with her life. She was taking anti-depressants and watched by family and friends for suicide attempts. Yet somehow through all of this misery, she found my son a ray of sunshine. She loved to hold him and coo at him. When Christmas rolled around, my son being 6 months old, she bought him the most adorable tiny tuxedo. She doted on him whenever she saw him, always fussing over him. She'd straighten his clothes and hair and tickle him under the chin.
Alas, Spring came and her depression worsened. She took an overdose of pills near a waterfall she frequented often and slipped quietly away.
We were saddened by the tragedy, and felt that perhaps there was something we could have done to prevent this. But it was not to be.
Time passed, and we talked often about how Mary Anne would have loved to play with our son as he began to get bigger. Soon, another son was born and all seemed right with the world. Much to my dismay, almost each day, as the children were 2 and 3, they were awakened during their nap times (They each had their own rooms) by unexplainable things.
I began to notice oddities as I would go into their rooms. Things would be re-arranged and straightened up. The toys in their cribs were tidied up and their clothing they had on were straightened up and buttoned. My oldest son's room was often warm and it had no heat ducts in the room, in fact, ususally it was rather chilly, especially if the door had been closed which I never did because of the coolness and I wanted to be able to hear him if he needed me. The house in which we live is over one hundred years old and fairly drafty. My oldest would often awaken laughing, and toe door quite often shut tight and my youngest son would often awaken crying hysterically.
I wondered if it could be that Mary Anne was coming in and visiting them. The answer to my question came when I had a friend stay one afternoon while the children napped so I could run some errands. When I returned she couldnn't wait to leave the house. She said that eerie things happened. The sweeper turned on by itself. Lights turned on by themselves and became very bright. She felt as if something wanted her out of the house and she was extremely fearful. She was afraid to leave the light of the living room, even though it was the early part of the evening, and still very light outside.
I decided to address the ghost as I knew her. I entered my son's room and gently said, "Mary Anne, please leave the children alone, you're frightening them." I felt a sudden swooch of air push by me and never had a mysterious thing happen again. I was convinced that this lost spirit was trying to watch over my son.
