My mom died very suddenly at the age of 50 in 1981. I had recently remarried and moved to another state and was feeling very guilty that I had moved away and taken her only grandchild with me. The night of the funeral, I let my five year old son sleep with me fearing he would be upset; he was very close to my mom. The sound of his voice in the middle of the night woke me up. He was carrying on a one-sided conversation with my mom. I heard him say,"Will I ever see you again, mama?" He appeared to still be asleep. Funeral being over, I left my hometown and returned to my everyday life. About 2 months later, I got an hysterical phone call a 3 a.m. from my ex-husband. H e could hardly talk he was so upset. Since he and I had been married for some years he and my mom had grown close. His new wife(being the jealous type)would not allow him to go to the funeral or visitation of my mom. He said that he was up late watching TV that night when he heard a knock on the ! ! door. He answered the door and there was a group of ladies standing on his porch. One lady in the front asked him if he knew where "Mackie" lived. He replied that he knew of no one in the nerighborhood with that name. Then he said, a voice from the back said, "can I come in?" My ex said,"no you can't come in, I don't even know you!" At this time the woman from the back stepped forward and said,"yes you do, Rick, it's me Jo Ann", and there stood my mother!!!!! Now I was very curious at this point because my mother's very best friend during her high school years was called "Mackie" and she had died very young having her first child. My ex didn't know this. So I asked him what mom looked like and he described everything we had buried her in, in great detail right down to the jewelry she had on. Remember, he had not went to the visitation or funeral!!!! His description of how my mother looked when we buried her was 100% accurate. I at first had thought he had fall! ! en asleep watching TV and dreamed the whole thing, but after speaking to his wife, I know for sure that he had a visit from my mom. Not only because of the description, but because his wife told me that she woke up hearing the door slam. She said she got up and not only found Rick wide awake and very upset, but the door had not latched and was still partially open. After that, I was totally at peace with the loss of my mom. No more dreams about betraying her. I knew she was still around in the hereafter and I think she wanted to let me know that. Maybe she is still looking for Mackie or maybe Macking was one of the other ladies there and my mom just used that as a way to let me know it was all real. She had told me the story about her friend Mackie and her death. It was a very healing experience for me.
