Hi! I'm new to the group, and spent all last evening reading the posts here. I have a couple of "incidents" that I would like to share. Any feedback would be appreciated. BTW, I want to apologize in advance for the length of this post. ;-)
Both occured in Wilmington, NC, in 1995, one directly before the birth of my daughter, and the other soon after.
My husband was the General Manager of a nightclub in Wilmington, and apparently the building had some history. To get you caught up -- the building is large, and quite cavernous. When you walk in the front doors, to your left are tables, and beyond them and up one step, is the pool table area. To your left are the dance floor and stage. Straight back and behind the main bar is the office, and behind that is a large corridor that runs the length of the building and contains the liquor cabinets, beer cage, a couple of dressing areas and a slightly larger "common area" that leads to the side of the stage.
Anyway, it is said that the area that now houses the pool tables was once separated from the rest of the building by a wall, and was a small bar. Supposedly a bit of a brawl once broke out (a disagreement over a pool game, I believe), and a couple of people were shot and killed. Another incident in the history of the building was that a young women was picked up by a trucker there. They hopped in his truck and took a ride. I was never told if it was known what transpired during the ride. What I was told, was that the young woman was found out behind the club later (I don't remember if it was the next day, or longer than that) completely disemboweled.
OK, with all that out of the way, on to my first incident. It was late, after the club had closed, and the only people left in the building were me, my husband (Woody), and the club's assistant manager, Kenny. I was about 9 months pregnant at the time. Woody and Kenny had just finished the nightly totals, and Woody was on the phone with the club owner. Kenny and I were standing near the office door, when we both heard the sound of a female talking, then laughing. Thinking maybe someone had been in the ladies' room when we closed up, Kenny went into the main club to let them out. He came back, informing me he found no one. Those words were just barely out of his mouth, when we heard the same voice, talking, then laughing. Again, nothing. It happened one more time, before Kenny and I told Woody we would wait for him outside. We didn't hear the sounds again, but Kenny told me when he's alone he quite frequently hears the sounds of people talking, laughing, and once heard the sound of a gunshot.
Woody and I lived in a nearby apartment building, which was quite old. I don't know of any history. Woody claimed he quite frequently saw ghosts in our apartment, and they quite frequently made him uncomfortable. It was right before my daughter was born, and directly after, that I started seeing them as well. For me it was mostly movement seen from the corner of my eye. Our kitchen had two entries, one from the hallway and the other from the dining room. I can't tell you how many times I saw something go from the hallway to the dining room, through the kitchen. Also, I would quite frequently see "dark" movement across the floor (again, from the corner of my eye). I would usually look up, expecting to see a roach or some other bug, but would find nothing. A lot of "dark" movement near the ceiling, as well. But one incident really gave me the willies. Our daughter was colicky for the first couple of months of her life, and we tried everything to calm her down, and make her sleep. I kept my boombox on the floor next to her crib, and at naptime and bed time it would be turned on between radio stations -- for the "white noise". One this particular day, I put her in her crib, as usual, then turned on the radio (I had to push the power button), then after finding the spot between stations, set the volume at about 3 or 4 -- loud enough for her to hear, but not overpowering, then left the room. I walked around the apartment and did some cleaning, then went to check on her about 15 minutes later. I walked in her room and was surprised to not hear the radio. I leaned over, and saw the volume knob had been turned to about 1. I turned it back up to 4, and still heard nothing. I looked back at the radio, and realized the power had been shut off! I turned everything back on, then ran to the phone to call my husband and demand he come home. I have no explanation for what happened -- I was home alone with my 6 week old daughter, and we had no pets.
