My experience takes me back to August 31st 1993, and The Norfolk Broads,
heart of Ghostland.
There are many ghost related experiences connected to the Norfolk Broads, and
like many adventurous teenagers, myself and a group of frieds decided to put
these so called stories to the test.
Our search took us to West Caister, were on numerous occasions strange noises
and mysterious sightings have been reported over the years at the ruins of
Caister Castle, a bulding with several hundered years of history.
The road leading to the Castle is straight and even and there are fields to
both sides. No ditches nor hedges butt up against the road, you leave the
road and you are in the field.
Although Im not convinced that time was a specific factor, most people assume
that ghostly experiences happen at midnight, but it was very near to 'The
Witching Hour'.
We were about 500 yards off the dual carriage way heading towards the Castle,
when a figure appeared in front of us in the middle of the road.
Although the figure was of human shape and size, it appeared to be cloaked
and was approximately 2 feet above the surface of the road. Unlike when
people walk, this figure or person, or whatever you wish to call it appeared
to hover across the road.
In total shock, I slammed on the car breaks and momentarily glanced in my
mirror at the shocked faces of two friends in the back of the car who had
also seen the figure, and returned my eyes to the road ahead only to find the
figure had vanished.
Although it was very late, it was a clear and light night and looking across
the fields there was no sign of any person or animal running away, and as I
already said, the road ran off onto the fields, so there were no ditches.
The only explanation I can imagine is that that night we saw what you can
only describe as a ghost.
