story This occurrence happened to me tonight, January 2,1999, approximately around 10:00p.m.
I am not a UFO buff and dismiss all moving lights in the night sky as manmade aircraft for the reason that I have never witnessed anything more dramatic than a blinking light. However, I do not discount the possibility of supernatural or extraterristrial manifestations and I perhaps had that opportunity tonight, for my first experience.
Every night I make my trek across the road to help my elderly mother-in-law get ready for bed. Tonight, it is pouring rain and as I trudge down our gravel drive and look to my right to check for oncoming cars, I notice a brilliant light positioned over our neighbor's house, about 500'away. I stopped and gazed at it.
We live in a rural area and anything out of the ordinary is certainly noticed. This light appeared out of the ordinary and my first thought when I saw it was that it was a National Guard plane coming through at a rather low altitude and probably still a good distance away. Their headlights appear large and "hovering" as they approach--only this light did not approach. Instead it seemed to turn slightly and directly toward me. Even then, I was certain this was a transport plane and it might crash in our field! Suddenly, it flared up.
Our neighbor's Shepherd began barking and they turned on an outside light. I stood gazing at this expanded light for a few more seconds and an was astounded when it suddenly turned green. For a split second, there appeared to be a green glow or brief, short shaft of green light enaminating along one side.
I quickly decided this was not an airplane and ran back to my house to get my husband and grab a pair of binoculars. I was only in the house less than ten seconds. When I went back out on the porch, the light was gone.
I have no idea what I've seen. I'm afraid to call my neighbor, because, unless they they were in a position to see this, they might think I'm a kook. Besides, what if there was some other plausable explanation? I can't imagine what.
Has anyone experienced this kind of UFO sighting or can tell me what I saw?
