Subject: OuiJa story

I realise that the OuiJa is a highly controversial medium, and that you must all have either experienced or heard of similar stories to this; However, I shall tell of my experience with the board.

[I apologise to the members of Ghost-Discuss because I told this same story to them about 4 months back.]

One night (predictable, huh?) myself and my best friend (we'll call him Jay) were invited to our other friend's house which is situated about 3 miles into a dense forest on the outskirts of the city.

* Please bear in mind that we were all 16 at the time.

It was the middle of winter, and there was a blanket of snow which engulfed the entire forest. Myself & Jay arrived at the house to be greeted by Steph.

After several hours of mindless TV watching, Jay suggested that we try the OuiJa; Steph, being the up-for-it kinda person, though it a great idea and soon we had the board set-up and ready for action; we used a glass tumbler to as a plachette (sp?).

After the usual questions - "is anyone there?" etc.-, and accusations of "you're moving it, I know you are!", Jay, who considered himself a bit of a dare-devil (perhaps the wrong word to use here) decided to ask it to give us a sign.

Now, what I'm going to tell you is exactly what happened that night; and no, we were not drinking.

Almost instantaneously, the Television, which was about 7 feet away turned itself off. Of course, we all thought it was someone pressing the remote, but the said remote was still ontop of the TV. Besides, the three of us had one hand on the table and the other on the tumbler; the door was shut firmly, as was the window, so no-one else in the house could have tampered with it. Unperturbed, we proceded to ask further questions, but received strange and indecipherable answers.

As is consistent with all ghost stories, the room became noticeably colder; this, coupled with the incoherent replies were were getting, made us tire of the board. As we were pretty ignorant of all things OuiJa, Jay suggested that the 'proper' way to nullify the board is to say your goodbyes and turn the board over.

Having done this, we turned our attentions to the TV again (not to its spontaneous turn-off, but to the drivel that was being shown on it). The room was still really cold despite all would-be draught areas being suppressed and the central-heating being turned-on full blast (it being mid-winter). As were were watching the TV, Steph suddenly shouted "my god" (or words to that effect - - imagine it with more expletives), "look the the ceiling!". Right above the TV, which was situated inthe corner of the room, was a perfect (and I mean perfect) black triangle. Closer inspection revealed that its constituents were, in fact, harvest flies [really tiny black flies]. The strange thing was, as I've reiterated again & again, all doors and windows in this room were firmly shut. Furthermore, we would have instantly noticed such a swarm of flies - which led us to believe that they were a manifestation of sorts.

Steph being Steph, produced a can of deoderant and a lighter; putting the two together, Steph sent those flies back to their maker (literally!) - scorching the wallpaper to boot.

Nothing else occured that night, at least, that we were aware of. However, sitting at the breakfast table the following morning, Steph's mum asked us why were were so noisey last night, and why we were running around outside the house at around 5am. Steph and Jay were asleep by 2am, but I had a serious case of insomnia, and spent the best part of the night/early morning wide awake.

She said that she heard us laughing and running about the outside of the house. Keep in mind that the nearest cottage was about 2 miles away.

When Steph, Jay and I next met-up at school, two days had elapsed since the OuiJa experience. Steph told us that the night after Jay & I had gone home, he had been asleep in his room (which he, at that point, shared with his brother) and had heard voices, as many as 6 or 7, whispering in his room. His brother backed-up Steph's claim. There were no electrical appliances in the bedroom, as Steph & his family had just moved-in and everything, save of matresses & quilt covers, were still in boxes in the hallway. Accorinding to Steph, the voiced whispered all night - frozen with fear, Steph and his brother did not move nor make any sound during that night.

We have never used the OuiJa since, and Steph and his family no longer live at the cottage; in fact, no-one lives there now. ------- End of Forwarded Message
