Hey Guys, Dave back again with true tales of weird.
It was the summer between my 6th and 7th grade year. The small neighborhod I lived in at the time had a rather large group of kids my age, and we all spent the summers goofing around with each other, wasting time until school started again.
One afternoon, myself and the 4 or 5 other guys I hung around with decided to have a "seance". One of my friends had seen a movie in which the characters laid out pieces of paper with the alphabet and numbers and the words yes and no on a table and used a glass as a pointer. then they lowered the lights and started asking questions, and the glass moved under their hands to spell out words.
So we tried it. Most of us had a catholic school upbringing, and had heard about demons and such, so to protect ourselves, we had some small bottles of holy water and my grandmothers silver cross. We made the cards, laid them out on the table, chose a glass, and turned down the lights. My friend who had seen the movie began calling for a spirit to come and talk to us.
Just then, my friends dog, who had been sitting in the kitchen, began to growl at us. This was unusual, since the dog knew us all and had never growled or barked at any of us before. Repeated efforts to get the dog to quiet down failed, so we finally had to put him in the garage, where he continued to bark and growl throughout the following events.
My friends and I returned to the table and began again. As we started to go through the "ceremony", I turned my head towards the slightly towards the kitchen, probably in response to the dog barking, but I'm not sure. What caught my eye, though, though, was a flicker of movement just out of the corner of my eye. I could of sworn I had seen a person standing in the kitchen, but no one, including the guy sitting and looking directly into the kitchen, saw it. (I wrote earlier about being a sensitive, a fact that I was aware of even at this time, so my friends unresponsiveness to the sight didn't phase me. Much.)
Just as my friend asked, "Is there a spirit present?", I again saw a flicker of movement, and then the temperature of the glass dropped about 5 degree. Suddenly, the glass shot across the table to the card marked "yes". I could see fear start to show on all of my friends faces, but someone asked if the spirit was evil, to which the glass responded "no".
One of the guys started to get pretty freaked out, and when the question was asked about the name of the spirit, the glass spelled out W-A-and began to move toward another letter when he lost it totally. he pulled his hand off the glass, which stopped moving. Then he began begging us to stop, that we didn't know what we were dealing with, and we should just forget it.
Thats when the really freaky thing happened. As he said we should just forget it, the glass, which no one was touching or even close to, began to slowly slide across the table. We all watched in silence as the glass slid aobut 6 inches and came to rest against the card marked "no". Then all hell broke lose. Someone popped the top off of their holy water and emptied the bottle on the table. I grabbed my cross, and we all beat it pell mell through the living room and out the front door.
Eventually, we went back in, me in the lead with the cross and guys on either side of me with bottles of holy water. We picked up the cards and burned them, but no one would touch the glass. The guy's house we were at caught hell later for leaving the glass on the table and putting water over the table. His mom cleaned them both up, to our relief.
By the way, the dog had quit barking and growling sometime after our hasty retreat from the house. he never barked or growled at any of us again.
Since then, I have sat in on many ouija board sessions, but I have never participated in one since. I have seen the flicker of movement and the looks of amazement on the faces of the people where something has happened, and have also seen quite a few hoaxes. I am pretty convinced that sometimes the ouija does something, but what exactly happens, I am not sure. Perhaps we will never know.
