I have several paranormal experiences I'd like to relate, some happening to me, some happening to family members. I'll start with me.

Haunted Farmhouse

When I was 15 we moved from Massachusets to Provo Utah (Culture Shock!). My parents bought an old brick farmhouse that was being remodelled by a local contractor. When we moved in our neighbors wasted no time in telling us stories about the house's former occupant, a crotchety old recluse. Apparently he had a reputation for keeping to himself and not bathing all that regularly. He lived in the home with his mother who died twenty years before we bought the place, and then 15 years after that, he died a particularly nasty death. One day while burning trash out in his apple orchard, his greasy unwashed pants caught on fire. Our neighbor accross the street saw this, ran out and beat out the fire and rushed the old man to the hospital. He was bandaged up and sent home with the instructions to keep the wounds clean. He didn't, and died from gangrene. The house was vacant until the contractor bought it to remodel.

I lived in the house until going to college 3 years later, and most of the time it was pretty uneventful, except for two experiences, one that happened to me, and one that happened to my sister. One night, when the family was heading out to dinner, my mother told me to go through the house and turn out all the lights. I started on the top floor, checking all 4 rooms up there, and noticed that the closet light of my moms sewing room was on. I walked over, turned it off, and as I was making for the door, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look, nothing was there, but the light in the closet was back on. Puzzled, I went back and sure enough, the switch was in the "on" position. I firmly turned it off (again) and again made for the door. when I got to the doorway of the room, I heard the lightswitch click and the light was back on. at that point I said screw it and ran out of the house to the waiting car. Nobody believed me, so I never brought it up again! ! .

When my sister was 10, she remembers waking up one night to go to the bathroom only to see a cloaked figure in the doorway of her bedroom. Thinking it was our mother, she called out to the figure. at that point the figure started to glide towards her, and my sister felt a definite feeling of menace emanating from the figure. It was totally black like a three dimensional shadow. She shut her eyes and began to scream at the top of her lungs until my other sister and I ran in and turned on the light. My folks soon joined us. I remember that night very clearly, hearing her scream and finding her standing in the middle of her room, tears streaming down her face, eyes tightly shut and wailing to beat the band.

The rest of my family never had any experiences, although even my parents feel now that the house was haunted.

College Experiences

This exprerience was rather wierd, and I didn't realize how weird until 8 years later. My experience was this:

One night, fall quarter my junior year, as I was drifting off to sleep I had the sensation that a dark presence was coalescing above me, I opened my eyes and the dorm room (which usually got some light from the windows) was pitch black, and then with a rush, the presence above me drifted down untill it was pressing down on me, and I had the sensation that this dark malevolence wanted to kill me. My first urge was to jump out of bed, but I was paralyzed, and I couldn't breath. Vision started to tunnel, and I felt like I was losing conciousness when the thought came to me to fight with every fiber of my being. The next thing I knew I was standing in the middle of the room in full yell, punching and kicking and scaring the hell out of my roomate. I didn't sleep the rest of the night, and that SEEMED to be the end of it.

7 years later I got married, and one night during the first year of my marriage, my wife and I were talking about the paranormal with some friends, when she recounted an identical experience that happened to her during the exact same time period. This blew me away, because I had never told her about my exprerience. The summer prior to her sophmore year of college (she is a year younger than me), her mother had died, and things had not been good with them before her death, her final phone conversation with her had been quite acrimonious. (my wife still feels guilty about that, but the guilt was very strong during that first quarter at school) Two nights after the presence had tried to get her (we went to the same college by the way, and her dorm was across the quad from mine), she had a very vivid dream (colors, smells, etc) that she was standing in the desert on a freeway, and in a distance she saw a car approach. It was a convertible, and when it pulled up next to her, her mo! ! ther was driving, and invited her to get in. She did, and they went on a long drive, talked through all their issues and then her mother drove her back to place she had picked her up, blew her a kiss and drove off. That did alot to settle the grief my wife felt.

We still don't know why something tried to "get" us at seemingly the same time, (we didn't know each other that well while in school, started dating 5 years after graduation). Something trying to rob our future happiness perhaps?
