The face in the window

Hi, I've been reading stories on this site for some time and I finally decided I had the guts to submit mine, I'm not the greatest at telling stories so you'll have to bare (sp) with me.

I actually have a few incidents(sp)that happened to me when I was growing up in one house.

This one happened to me when I was about six. Before I begin I guess I should give a view on what the upstairs looked like, since that's where this took place.

When you open the upstairs door, there are immediate stairs,at the top is an attic door. If you go right, there was my big sisters room, but if you go left that was my other sister and my room, so they were directly across from eachother on either side of the stairway, without doors.I hope you got that. Okay...

One night I got into trouble and my Dad sent me to my room. Of course I cried because it was upstairs, where the attic was.Well I was crying and I went in my sisters room and looked out the window at my nieghbors house, wishing I were there instead. My sisters light was'nt working so her room was dark, making me more scared. While I was trying to convince myself that I was'nt scared I suddenly saw a face appearing in the window directly in front of me!! It was just a head, a green head with orange hair that stuck up everywhere, scary yellow eyes and big fangs. I swear it was saying something to me but I don't remember what, I started praying and bawling, screaming at the top of my lungs. For a minute I was frozen, but eventually I bolted down the steep stairs and fell, hitting the door. I just screamed and cried until someone opened the door and asked me what was wrong. I did'nt want to go back up there that night, but I had to for bed. My sister and I slept in the same bed, she was by the window and as I told her about it, the face came back, but it was in our window! As soon as she turned to look it dissapeared (sp).

I know that probably sounded corny but to me as a six year old it was one of the most frightning experiences I would have in that house. I am twenty three now and sometimes I drive by that house and wonder if I dare ask the residents if it is haunted. I wonder.

Thank you for reading this, I'll have more, sorry it was so long.

Obiwan notes: This sounds like a fairly typical case of what I like to call "imagination projection." That is, when someone is scared or stressed, their mind's eye conjures up some pertinent vision. The person is actually "seeing" what's in their imagination, which is why it seems so real... to that person, it is! The fact that Donna's vision was a dead ringer for a Halloween witch (something a six year old might well identify with fear), and that the vision disappeared when her sister turned to look, backs up the Imagination Projection theory.
